The iNEST project envisages the establishment of an innovation ecosystem in the Northeastern Italy that will insist on 9 different strategic themes (dubbed “Spoke”) led by as many universities (Ecosystems for mountain innovation; Health, Food and Lifestyle; Green and digital transition for advanced manufacturing technology; City, Architecture, Sustainable design; Smart and sustainable environments; Tourism, culture and creative industries; Smart agrifood; Maritime, marine and inland water technologies: towards the Digital Twin of the Upper Adriatic; Models, Methods, Computing Technologies for Digital Twin). Fondazione Università Ca’ Foscari is involved as an affiliate partner in Spoke No. 6 Tourism, culture and creative industries, which aims to bring together the areas of management, economics, sciences, arts and humanities for the creation of a tourism ecosystem in which culture operates as a driver of strategic innovation. The research activities (led by Ca' Foscari University) and related land transfer activities will address issues related to the fragmentation of the tourism sector through the sharing of information also gathered through big data analysis. The project will outline an interconnected approach to the promotion of cultural heritage as a solution to the preservation of the territory and historic cities. Sustainable tourism, understood as a balance between local identity and economic issues, will be promoted with innovative business models that address some of the most undesirable effects of overtourism, such as monocultural bias and loss of authenticity.
