Description

NEXOGENESIS “Facilitating the next generation of effective and intelligent water- related policies utilizing artifical intelligence and reinforcement learning to assess the water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) nexus,” is a project funded under the H2020 program. Its main objective is the development of a coherent scheme, directed to develop and validate assessment mechanisms, based on self-learning, artificial intelligence and involvement of “stakeholders” for the most proper management of land, food, energy and ecosystems. These elements are interconnected and dependent on varying climatic and socio-economic factors but are often managed by different and non-organic policies and directives. The nexus “assessment engine” will systematically estimate the impacts of recently introduced or potentially introduced policies and compare them with a baseline scenario. It will then be tested in five case studies, including one in southern Africa. Socio-economic, climate-related and geographic proximity aspects will be considered. The Ca’ Foscari Applied Economics Center established at Fondazione Università Ca’ Foscari is responsible for coordinating activities related to “Biophysical-human modelling”, together with the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC).
