ECHO - Science Communication Hub

Ensuring that research generates maximum impact in society, providing tangible value to all stakeholders involved. This is ECHO's vision. To achieve this, we employ innovative, collaborative, strategic, evidence-based, and data-driven approaches to communication, dissemination, and public engagement activities, reducing the gap between research and practice in science communication.
Society as a whole needs effective science communication, grounded in guiding principles that consider scientific rigor, the effectiveness of presentation, and the ability to engage and involve. ECHO strategically activates top professionals in a hub-oriented approach to design and implement science communication and public engagement activities for research projects.

Areas of Expertise

As the science communication hub of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice Foundation, ECHOprovides consulting services to scientific groups and institutions in the frame of national and international project proposals and initiatives. The applied method involves co-designing strategies and actions to maximize the impact of research among relevant stakeholders.

Starting from the research objectives, we support:

  • The identification of communication, dissemination, and public engagement goals;
  • The identification of target groups and stakeholders;
  • The planning and execution of actions for effective dialogue, leveraging the full spectrum of possible interaction channels;
  • The definition of indicators to assess the activities carried out;
  • The capacity building of the research team.

ECHO promotes the connection between research in science communication topics and its implementation. Fundamental to the Center's approach are the results of the European project Quality and Effectiveness of Science and Technology Communication (QUEST), , funded by the Horizon 2020 program - Science with and for Society.

Activities and Services

To access Echo's services aimed at leaders of research proposals or projects, we invite you to contact us via email to initiate the initial screening necessary to provide the best possible support.

The screening phase may also include a brief interview to delve into needs and collaboration opportunities. The screening and the corresponding feedback represent a preliminary phase offered to those wishing to assess collaboration with Echo for a project proposal seeking funding, or for those with an active funded project in need of support.

In the subsequent phase, ECHO offers consulting in the design and implementation of science communication and public engagement activities, in ways that are appropriate and proportionate to the overall project.

In addition to collaborating in the definition of strategies and plans, ECHO also contributes, through its collaboration hub, to the realization of actions that may include, but are not limited to: content for channels such as social media, websites, newsletters, visual identity, public engagement, informal education and educational workshops, citizen science, reporting and administration related to the activities themselves.
