Description

The project aims to activate a territorial ecosystem in the metropolitan area of Venice which, by placing cultural productions at its centre, brings them into dialogue with the broader dynamics of economic production in order to respond to the demand for new imaginaries to be associated with Venetian productions. Cultural innovation applied to the origin of productions and to the identity of the territory is therefore the central focus of the project, at once the source of the need and the platform for developing solutions. The drive towards cultural innovation is signalled from the very title, which takes up the provocative invocation (Let’s Murder the Moonshine) that F.T. Marinetti addressed to the Venetians more than a century ago. This original intuition poetically highlights the risk, for the development of a territory, of relying on images, codes and symbols inherited from a mythical past and uncritically reproduced in the present. Cultural innovation, on the contrary, can represent a factor for development which, by creatively questioning the past and the present, intuits the future and prepares the conditions for the necessary transitions.

Results

The KTM project therefore intends to explore the possibility of a new and evolved form of collaboration between the world of art and culture and the broader context of economic production, represented in particular by the business system. KTM thus adopts an ecosystem perspective, seeing the cultural dimension as an aggregator of extraordinary, and still partly unexplored, relevance for territorial development. Drawing on the traditional categories of cultural production — publishing, music, culture, dance, cinema, visual arts, and others — it proposes an idea of “culture” that also includes the body of knowledge, practices, artefacts and symbols developed by the wider business system.

The ecosystem that the project aims to build therefore takes on the contours of a “system-wide cultural district”, a new approach to local development in which cultural production presents significant strategic complementarities with other production chains. From this perspective, culture drives the accumulation of intangible resources such as human, social and cultural/symbolic capital, thereby fostering economic and social growth and environmental sustainability. In the KTM project, this accumulation is aimed at the production of content to be incorporated into new prototypes of cultural productions in the form of “Live Demos” to be presented to the business world, in order to concretely demonstrate the transformative potential of cultural productions for ecosystems other than the cultural one.
